Apply for the Feed-in tariff Scheme

How do I apply?

You'll need to download and complete the Solar Feed-in tariff*, Non Solar Feed-in tariff application form, or the Self Billing Agreement (if you're VAT registered).

Alternatively you can email us or call us on 0345 301 4884 to request an application form. We’re open 8am-8pm Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm Saturday.

Make sure you only send copies of documents, as we can’t return the originals to you. If any of the requested documents aren’t provided or details are completed incorrectly, this can result in your your application being returned with confidential information destroyed. You’ll then have to re-apply.  This will cause a delay in registering you for the FiT scheme.

What happens next?

For postal applications, we’ll contact you for your start meter reading on the day we process your application. If you email us your application please include a generation meter reading from the day that your application form is sent to us. If you don’t provide a meter reading for this day we’ll contact you.

Once we get your start reading, we’ll start the registration process and send you a FiT Plan. You’ll receive your FiT Plan within 8 weeks of us registering your account.

Once we receive your signed and dated FiT Plan within 10 working days, your account will be activated and you can start providing your meter readings for payment. We’ll only be able to complete your registration and you’ll only receive payments once we’ve received a signed and dated FiT Plan from you.

It is then your responsibility to provide a meter reading in order to receive payments; you should provide a meter reading every 3 months for the length of your FiT agreement. You’ll have a 22 day meter reading window in which you can provide a meter reading. This is made up of 14 days before and 7 days after your meter reading date.

If you need more information, please read our Frequently Asked Questions, or refer to our Terms and Conditions, or contact the Energy Savings Trust.

Common reasons for delay in registering a FiT application

1.      A missing generation meter start reading:

If sending by post – Once we receive your completed postal application, we’ll call you for a generation meter reading.

If sending by e-mail - Please include a generation meter reading taken on the same day you email your application to us. If your application is complete then we’ll use this as your start meter reading. If you don’t supply a meter reading we’ll call you for one on the day we process your application.

If we can’t reach you by telephone, we’ll send you an email, if you’ve provided us with an email address, or letter asking you to contact us in order to provide a start meter reading.

2.      Incorrect or no declarations being signed:

You must only complete the two declarations that apply to your installation. Only one declaration should be completed from declarations 1 to 4, together with one declaration from declarations 5 and 6.

Declaration 5 applies if you are the FiT Generator or Nominated recipient for 25 or more sites. Declaration 6 applies if you are the FiT Generator or Nominated recipient for 24 or less sites.

3.      Incorrect generation details being provided in section 4:

The information regarding the commissioning date and capacity of your system can be found on your MCS certificate as well as the front of your generation meter. If the information on your MCS certificate and generation meter doesn’t match you will need to contact your installer. The information you provide must match the details on your MCS certificate.

4.      Incorrect or no proof of identification:

We’ll need a photocopy of valid identification, such as a passport or driving licence.

5.      Incorrect or no electricity meter details being provided in section 6:

We need you to provide some details about your electricity account. These details can be found on the front of your electricity meter or on your electricity bill.
