Fault codes - E.ONCALL HELP - Check your display screen for more information then give us a call.BATTERY FAIL - Check your display screen for more information then ring us to get it sorted.CARD NOT ACCEPTED - Call to book an appointment when your meter runs out of credit.BLANK SCREEN - Press BUTTON A or insert card to try and bring the screen up.CARDFAIL - Clean your card with a soft, dry cloth and reinsert.

Meter displays guide - E.ON00 - If you’re repaying a debt, this shows how much of your last top up went towards repayment.01 - If you owe us money, this shows how much of your last top up went towards repayment.02 - How much of your last top up repaid emergency credit.03 - The amount you paid towards gas when you last topped up.09 - The price you’re charged for gas usage.10 - The price you’re charged for gas usage.17 - The price your standing charge is set at.23 - Should show 0, this means no money will be given for gas if there is debt on the screen.24 - The percentage the meter will take towards a debt if you’re repaying through your meter.25 - The minimum amount you need to pay weekly if you’re repaying a debt through your meter.26 - The maximum amount the meter can take weekly if you’re repaying a debt through your meter.27 - If you’re paying back a debt through your meter, this screen will show how much is outstanding.Contact us on Facebook - E.ON Energy UK or Twitter @eonhelp

Your meter display messages tell you important information

If any of the messages in the table below come up on your meter, you need to call us.

Error messages
Message  What it means What you need to do first
CALL HELP Cold weather/zero credit on meter causing valves to shut/letting meter run out of gas completely Check your meter display screen
BATTERY FAIL Using emergency credit too much Check your meter display screen
CARD NOT ACCEPTED M and 5 stars or 5 dashes The meter has a fault Check the display screen with the card in and then out of the meter
BLANK SCREEN  The meter has a fault Press BUTTON A or insert card to try and bring the screen up
CARDFAIL 04, 28, 35, 38 The meter is unable to read the card Make sure your card is clean - wipe clean with a soft cloth. DO NOT USE CLEANING PRODUCTS and reinsert the card
I think the meter is taking too much money You need to match the meter reading to the figure on your bill. Check you're paying the right prices on your meter Depending on your meter, prices are between settings 5 and 10 and your daily standing charge is setting 17. You can get to these settings by pressing button A. These include VAT. Check these against the prices on your energy bill, which exclude VAT, so don't forget to add 5% onto the prices that you see. If the two match then you're paying the right price for your gas.

You can flick through the settings on your meter by pressing the red button. You should see the messages below.

Explanation of meter displays
Display number Display description  What it means to you
00 Last card credit This shows how much credit you put on your meter last time you topped up
01 Last debt repayment If you owe us money this shows you how much of your last top up went towards the debt
02 Last emergency credit repayment This shows you how much of your last top up went towards your emergency credit
03 Last gas payment This tells you the amount you paid towards gas last time you topped up your meter
09 Tariff 4 The price you're charged for the gas you use
10 Tariff 5 The price you're charged for the gas you use
17 Standing charge The price your standing charge is set at
23 Gas allocation rate Should show 0, this means no money will be given for gas if there is debt on the owed screen, gas will be given once the debt is clear
24 Gas debt repayment rate This tells you the percentage of credit the meter will use to pay back money you owe
25 Gas debt - weekly minimum This shows you the minimum amount you need to pay weekly
26 Gas debt - weekly maximum This shows you the maximum amount the meter can take weekly
27 Gas debt If you owe some money this will show you how much you have left to pay
