Green homes funding schemes

We've taken the hassle out of finding grants and funding for energy efficiency improvements to your home.

You can check your eligibility in our green homes grant finder, all you'll need to do is answer a few simple questions.

What are green homes funding schemes?

Grants and funding schemes have been around for a while and are part of a range of energy efficiency schemes launched by the government. They help homeowners or private renters on a low-income or means-tested benefit to pay for energy saving improvements for their homes, such as wall insulation, loft insulation, solar panels and air source heat pumps.

These upgrades will improve the warmth of your home, cut your energy bills and help the UK towards net zero-carbon by 2050.

How does green homes funding work?

We deliver funding through a variety of grants and funding schemes. What's even better, is that we'll find the right funding for you, just complete our super simple questionnaire that you can answer in minutes.

Some green homes funding is delivered via your local authority, again we can check if your local authority has a scheme in your area in the green homes grant finder.

The benefits of green homes funding from us

Fully funded installations

The scheme offers assistance for eligible households to start saving from energy efficiency upgrades at zero cost with no strings attached.

Qualified installers

We use TrustMark and MCS registered installers so you can relax knowing that your energy efficiency upgrade is in good hands.

Future-proof home

Upgrading for free now will future-proof your home for many years to come and protect you from any stricter carbon targets.

Who is eligible for green homes funding?

There are certain eligibility criteria that needs to be met to qualify for the funding, including being on a low-income or means-tested benefit.

Don't worry if you're not eligible for an energy efficient home improvement grant through the scheme. There are still ways we can help you get an air source heat pump with the boiler upgrade scheme and even solar panels.

You'll need to meet the following eligibility criteria for green homes funding:

  • Your home has an EPC energy efficiency rating of D1, E, F or G – check your EPC here

If you don’t have an EPC we can assess your property and produce the certificate as part of the home survey, if we believe your property is eligible.

  • Your household income is less than £31,0002 or someone in your home receives a means-tested benefit such as Universal Credit, Income Support, and more. Our green homes grant finder will tell you if you're eligible.

Why choose us

We've been installing energy efficiency upgrades to make an improvement to people's homes for years, and we only use TrustMark registered installers so you know you'll be getting the very best service.

Our aim is to leave you with a warmer, more energy efficient home that costs you less in monthly bills to run. We're working closely with councils to help them provide energy efficiency improvements for eligible households.

Green funding schemes explained

Local authorities in England can bid for funding to help pay for energy efficiency products for homes in their area through the Sustainable Warmth Competition which consists of the Local Authority Delivery scheme, Home Upgrade Grant and the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund. They can then select partners to deliver the home improvements grants on their behalf.

Our local authority partners

We're working with councils across the country as the sole delivery partner for low-carbon heating and energy efficiency improvements.

We'll look after your entire journey making sure you are comfortable and confident every step of the way. Our aim is to leave you with a warmer, more energy efficient property that costs you less in monthly bills to run.

What efficient home improvements are available with green homes funding?

You can get heating controls to help you control the temperature of your home, insulation for walls and floors to keep the heat in, and improvements that’ll heat your home, like a low carbon air source heat pump.

Please be aware that the improvements available vary for different areas. For up-to-date information please speak to our advisors on 0333 202 4820.

Last but not least, generate your own electricity

Solar PV (Solar Photovoltaics) is the generation of electricity using energy from the sun. By installing Solar PV panels, you can produce free, green energy for your home. Solar electricity panels capture the sun’s energy and convert it into electricity that you can use in your home. You can also take advantage of our Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) tariff, you’ll get paid for any excess energy you export back to the grid.

How to apply for government grants

We're working with a number of local authorities up and down the country and we'll connect you with the energy saving funding that's available to you.

We've made it easy for you to apply for green homes funding with us, all you'll need to do is answer a few simple questions on our grant finder

Are there grants for air source heat pumps in Scotland?

The Re-Heat scheme is helping Scotland to future proof homes through the electrification of heat by installing low carbon solutions, like air source heat pumps.

Find out more about Re-Heat and how it could help build a more sustainable future for you and your family.

Keeping the heat in

The government grant for home improvements includes measures to insulate your home:

External wall insulation

External wall insulation (EWI) involves fixing a layer of insulation material to the wall, then covering it with a reinforcement and a modern thin-coat render.

EWI could save you up to £3752 per year off your energy bill.

Cavity wall insulation

Cavity walls can be insulated by injecting insulation material into the cavity from the outside. The cavity is located between the inner and outer brickwork of the property. Cavity wall insulation (CWI) stores the heat within the inner walls, bouncing it back into the room and holding it for longer. It also works in reverse by keeping your house cooler in the summer months.

CWI could save you up to £1802 per year off your energy bill.

Loft insulation

Loft insulation is a barrier of material within your roof space. It’s like a woolly hat for your roof and helps the property retain heat.

Insulating your loft could save you up to £2002 per year off your energy bill.

Under floor insulation

Under floor insulation (not to be confused with underfloor heating) can be installed where the floorboards are suspended and there is a gap which can be insulated. Newer homes generally have ground floors made of solid concrete while older homes are likely to have suspended timber floors. A mesh will be used to secure the insulation to the other side of the flooring.

Under floor insulation could save you up to £552 per year off your energy bills.

Non-UPVC door upgrades

A properly fitted new external door should include an effective draught-proofing system. Existing doors can be improved by fitting draught-proofing strips around the seals and the letterbox.

A new door could save you up to £202 per year on your energy bills.

Single glazed window replacement

Replacement energy efficient glazing covers both double and triple glazing. These are windows with two or more glass panes in a sealed unit.

Replacing your single glazed windows could save you up to £1072 a year on your energy bills.

External wall insulation

External wall insulation (EWI) benefits properties built before the 1920s with solid walls. It involves fixing a layer of insulation material to the outside wall, then covering it with a reinforcement and a modern thin-coat render. Reducing your energy bills by keeping the heat in and the cold out.

Under floor insulation

Under floor insulation (not to be confused with underfloor heating) can be installed where the floorboards are suspended and there is a gap which can be insulated. Newer homes generally have ground floors made of solid concrete while older homes are likely to have suspended timber floors. Making sure your floor is suitably insulated will keep your property warm and help reduce your energy costs.

Non-UPVC door upgrades

A properly fitted new external door should include an effective draught-proofing system. Existing doors can be improved by fitting draught-proofing strips around the seals and the letterbox. Reducing your heat loss and your energy bills.

Single glazed window replacement

Replacement energy efficient glazing covers both double and triple glazing. These are windows with two or more glass panes in a sealed unit. Installing these new windows will not only make your home more energy efficient, it’ll also reduce your energy bills too.

Heating

Air source heat pumps (ASHPs) are an electrical system that absorb heat from the outside air to heat your home and hot water. This makes them an energy efficient method of heating your home. They are seen as the long-term replacement of gas boilers. It has to be 300mm away from the property and when installed, has to be on a solid base.

Smart heating controls

Smart Heating Control allow you to manage your heating remotely from a computer, tablet or smartphone, in a more sophisticated way. One advantage of a smart heating control system is that you can make changes remotely if your plans change – for example, you can change the time that your heating comes on if it turns out you will be home sooner or later than you thought.
