Changing meters

Find the best option for you

If you’re thinking about changing your meter but you’re unsure if it’s the right option for you, we've pulled together everything you need to know to help you decide.

Smart Pay As You Go

If you're able to switch from prepayment to Smart Pay As You Go, you'll continue to pay for your energy in advance, but you'll be able to top up from your smartphone or computer, without needing to leave your home.

New industry regulations

The amount we can charge residential prepayment and Smart Pay As You Go customers has been capped. The prepayment Charge Restriction or price cap has been brought in by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) energy market investigation. The level of the cap will be reviewed every 6 months by Ofgem in April and October until 2020.

Switch to Prepayment

Prepayment meters can be a good way to keep in control of how much energy you use. Before switching to Prepayment, please make sure;

  • You have 24 access to your meter.
  • Your meter isn’t above head height.
  • You have no issues that would prevent you from topping up.

Switch to a credit meter

The great news is we don’t charge you if you want to swap your prepayment meter to a credit meter. The only requirement is that you pass a credit check1, we don’t want to help customers into debt as it’s not good for you or us.
