Frequently asked questions
Is it sunny enough to have solar panels in the UK?
Despite the UK's reputation, we actually get more than enough solar energy to make solar panels for your home a good investment, even on cloudy days.
In fact, the UK receives a similar amount of solar energy as some of the warmer European countries, and the same as Germany, one of the world leading generators of solar power.
Can I add a battery to my solar panel system?
Adding a battery to your package allows you to store energy generated during the day to use when you wish, making your home more self-sufficient and saving you money. You can add a battery to your package from only £96.33 a month over 3 years with our 0% APR interest-free option.
Do I need to get planning permission for solar panels?
Adding solar panels to your home is classed as a "Permitted Development" in the UK and therefore, standard solar panel installations do not require planning permission.
Planning permission should be obtained if your home is a listed building, world heritage site or the installation does not meet standard guidelines.
Is my roof suitable for solar panels?
Whether your roof faces south, east or west your home is perfect to have solar panels fitted. North facing roofs will not receive as much sunlight and therefore won't be as efficient.
The pitch of your roof should be between 20o - 50o.
Can I get help with paying for solar panels?
Depending on where you live in the UK, your cirumstances, and the type of home you have - you may qualify for grants or schemes that can help with paying for solar panels. Answer a few quick question in our Grant Finder tool and see if you're eligible.
How can I use the energy created by my solar panels?
Solar PV panels work by converting the sun's energy into electricity which can be used in many ways, from lighting your home to powering your appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers. If you have an electric or hybrid vehicle and home charger you can use the solar power from your PV panels to charge your car during the day or at night with a battery package.
How are my solar panels installed?
We aim to install your solar system in a day, plus some time to put your scaffolding up beforehand and take it down after. This depends on the system you choose and your home but we’ll discuss all of this with you before the installation. If you’re just having a battery fitted to your existing solar system it will take less than a day. You can find out more on our solar panel installation page.
Do solar panels come with a warranty?
All our solar PV panels come with a 10 year product warranty and a 25 year performance guarantee.
Can I fit the panels on a north facing roof if I don’t want them on the front of the house?
We can fit solar panels on roofs of all shapes and sizes, however fitting solar photovoltaic panels on a north facing roof may not give you the full benefit of the system. One of our experts will carry out a survey and will guide you through the best options for you home.
Do I need to be an E.ON gas and electricity customer to buy E.ON solar panels?
No, you don’t have to be an E.ON gas and electricity customer to buy solar panels from us, they're available to anyone who owns their home and roof.
