The Electrisave is a device which attaches to your electricity meter at home and lets you monitor your usage in real time. The transmitter at the meter sends over your electricity usage which is then displayed on the unit, which you can put in a suitable place - for example the kitchen or living room.
The Electrisave can display your usage in kilowatt-hours (kWh), tonnes of CO2 or cost if you input your electricity rate pence per hour. By using the Electrisave its possible to build up a picture of which appliances are electricity hungry and which use less.
Understanding energy usage helps put you in control of how much you are using, and makes it easier to see ways to reduce your overall consumption. One simple example is comparing use of an oven to a microwave. A microwave typically uses around half the power of an electric oven, and microwaves tend to cook food much more quickly. Buying an Electrisave will let you see this comparison, and others like it, in your own home.
E.ON is currently carrying out a trial with Ofgem to monitor how customers change their usage with an Electrisave installed. Early results indicate that customers have been able to reduce their consumption by over 5% on average.
