As we work to tackle the climate crisis, the desire for green jobs is likely to increase and there’s even a cohort of young people actively seeking green jobs now.

In fact, our latest research1 shows that almost half (46%) of those aged between 16-24 say they will bypass traditional higher education because they want to go straight into a green job. Plus, 44% of school leavers aged between 16-18 years believe a degree apprenticeship is the best path to starting a green career1.

At E.ON, we’re proud of our commitment to green jobs and our degree apprenticeship schemes. We’re leading the way with roles across our organisation focused on helping people become more sustainable in their homes, businesses and communities.

Apprenticeships at E.ON

Apprenticeships are a great example of how the younger generation are defining their own development, allowing them to learn quickly and develop their skills in a variety of roles.

Our apprenticeships are focused on ensuring apprentices develop the skills and knowledge needed to create a sustainable future and to thrive at any career stage, whether entry level, middle management or a Senior Leadership Programme.

We currently have around 240 apprentices working on over 50 different schemes including customer service, accountancy, HR, legal and cyber security among others. And our range of degree apprenticeships span Engineering, Project Management and Supply Chain Leadership to name a few.

Our degree apprenticeship schemes offer opportunities for young people to develop their passion for sustainability and set them on the path to a successful and rewarding career.

What our degree apprenticeships think

Lucia Miola, Project Manager Degree Apprentice

“I feel very supported as a degree apprentice. I have access to mentors who guide me, a business which values each individual and their contribution, a buddy (an older degree apprentice) who can help me with relatable issues as someone who works and studies full time.”

“For me, a green job was quite important as being able to work for a company that does its best to push towards a greener more sustainable future is rewarding as well as aligning with my own moral compass.”

Cerys Goodson, Programme Lead in B2B Solutions and former Degree Apprentice

“I wanted the opportunity to learn the world of work whilst still being able to gain the relevant qualifications. I felt pressured to apply to university as it was the traditional route to take. By applying for the apprenticeship scheme, I was able to have the best of both worlds whilst finding my feet early on in my career.”

Joining E.ON as an apprentice

You can make an impact in the green sector in so many ways, and a degree apprenticeship can help you get started straight away. In fact, 63% of 16–18 year-olds believe they will develop workplace skills a lot quicker by going straight into the workplace or undertaking an apprenticeship1.
