Update on Solar PV panels and battery installations following the latest coronavirus guidance - click here for details

It's important that we keep our customers and colleagues safe during coronavirus, so we've put some steps in place to make sure your solar panel installation goes safely.

Before your installation appointment:

We'll attempt to contact you ahead of your planned installation date with a few questions to make sure it is safe for you and our installer to go ahead with the install.

If it's clear the installation is unable to go ahead, we'll rearrange your installation for when it 'll be safe to go ahead.

Day of your installation appointment:

When our installers arrive they'll ask you some COVID-19 related questions from a safe distance to check that it’s still safe for your installation to go ahead. If there's been a change in your household circumstances and the installaion isn't safe to go ahead, we'll reschedule your installation to a future date when it will be safe for our installers to return.

If we’re able to proceed with your installation on the day as planned, there are a number of further precautions we’ll take to make sure we keep you and our installers as safe as possible:

• Our installers will be wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and frequently wash and sanitise their hands for the duration of your install

• Maintaining social distancing of two meters between our installers and members of your household - we may ask you to remain in a separate room where possible

• Our installers will be taking all possible steps to maintain social distancing of two meters between them. However, where this is not possible for essential operations, they will wear additional personal protective equipment

• Our installers will frequently clean regularly touched objects and surfaces e.g. tools, door handles and counter tops

• Our installers will ensure all waste is removed when the job is finished

• The need for a signature on any paperwork has also been removed

We are taking these steps to ensure you and our colleagues are safe and thank you for your full support

We manage the entire installation so you don't have to do a thing.

First contact

After filling out our online contact form, one of our experts will get in touch to book a survey to help you decide the best solar options for you and give you a personalised quote. The survey can be carried out in your home, over the phone or by video call.

Arranging your installation

If you agree to go ahead with the quote, we will discuss the best payment options for you. We'll then get in contact to arrange installation and tell you know the next steps (including when the scaffolding will be put up).

Scaffolding and install mounts fitted

Once the scaffolding has been put up, giving our our installers safe access to your roof,  the install mounts -  which the solar panels will be attached to - are fitted and attached to the rafters.

Solar panels, inverter & battery installed

When the solar panels have been secured to the frame and wired in, the inverter is installed and connected to the battery (if chosen) and the grid input. The inverter is what transforms energy from the solar panels into electricity your home can use.

Connect the system to the grid

Once your solar panel installation is complete, the whole system is connected to the consumer unit which will sit in your fuse box.  We'll then ensure all the cabling is neatly fitted with a black or white conduit to suit your home.

E.ON Home energy management

When your installation is complete you'll receive an invite to use our exclusive E.ON Home energy management system and instructions on how to use it to monitor the solar energy consumption throughout your home.

How long does a solar panel installation take?

Most installations are completed within a day but some larger jobs will take a little longer.  We can let you know once we know the size of the system you need.

We'll put your scaffolding up a few days before your solar installation and take it down a few days after and we'll always make sure we leave your property clean and tidy.

Solar panel packages

Whether your roof is in full sun or partly shaded, we offer three solar panel packages to ensure you get a system which is bespoke to your home and budget.

Maintenance and aftercare

The assistance we give doesn't stop after installation. There's many ways we continue to help to ensure your solar panels remain as efficient as possible.

Interest free, pay monthly

You can choose to spread the cost of your solar panels with our interest free 0% finance offer1. See our Solar cost page for more information.

Is my home suitable for solar panel installation?

Whether your roof faces south, east or west your home is perfect to have solar photovoltaic panels installed. North facing roofs will not receive as much sunlight and therefore won't be as efficient.

The pitch of your roof should be between 10o - 60o.

Do I need to get planning permission to get solar panels installed?

Having solar panels installed to your home is classed as a "permitted development". You only require planning permission if you live in a listed building or area of outstanding natural beauty.

Can I put up my own scaffolding?

In most circumstances we will insist on putting up our own scaffold, to ensure the safety of you and our solar panel installers, however there are exceptions when scaffold is already in place for renovation works or a new build home is being built, but that scaffold would have to meet with our safety standards.

Are your installers E.ON employees?

We have both direct staff and also solar panel installation partners across the country, all of our partners have to complete a thorough quality and Safety, Health & Environment on-boarding process to be allowed to install on behalf of E.ON, so you can rest assured you're in the best of hands.

How long does it take from consultation to install?

Our lead time from consultation to solar panel installation is around 4-6 weeks, unless you need an application to your local network - then it can take a little bit longer.
