Can I do anything to prepare for my installation?

  • Make sure the space around your electricity meter is clear, this helps our installers get to where they need to be to fit your charger.
  • We’ll need to connect to your Wi-Fi so have your password to hand so we can test the connection before we leave.
  • Remove any obstacles from areas where cables may need to pass through, this can help save time when our installer arrives.

A step-by-step guide to getting your EV charger installed

Your appointment

Complete our online and video survey to purchase your charger and arrange a suitable date for your EV home charger installation.

Expert installers

We'll send out one of our friendly expert installers to fit your charge point. They'll fit and test your charger and show you how it works.

The technical bits

Our installer will need to fit your charger in your chosen location, run the cable to the charger and connect to your electricity supply.

Plug in and go

Once your charger's been fitted, our installer will make sure that it's working and check any connections you're then free to plug in and charge up your car.

What to expect when getting a charger installed at home

Installing any new appliance at home can be daunting, particularly when electricity is involved. We've produced a video sharing the installation journey of our customer, Stuart, so you can see just how hassle free it is to get your charge point fitted at home.

What's included in a home charger installation?

Fix to a wall

Our installer will arrive at your selected time. We'll then install your charger on a brick or plaster wall that's connected to your property.

Run the cable

Cable is run from the wall mounted position of your charger to your electricity meter position which should be no more than 10m1.

Tidying up

The cable to the charge point is neatly clipped flush to the wall or in conduit/trunking. We'll tidy up and take all the rubbish away.

Register your guarantee

Once the installation is complete, we will register your parts and labour guarantee with the manufacturer.

Is my property suitable for a home charge point?

Not all homes are suitable for a home charger right now. It's important that you have off street parking so we can connect the charger to your electricity supply so it's likely you'll need to live in a property with a drive or garage.

If you rent your property, you'll have to get permission from your landlord if you want a charge point installed. We'll need proof of this before we can book your appointment.

Can I install a home charger myself?

It's not recommended that you do this unless you're a skilled electrician. Most installers of EV chargers have taken a specific course in fitting them so have expert knowledge.

How long will it take to install my charger?

Most home charge point installations can be completed within 2 hours, particularly if you've prepared for the installation prior to our fitter arriving at your home.

This includes clearing the space around your meter, having your Wi-Fi password handy and removing any obstacles from areas where cables may need to pass through.

What's not included with my charger and installation?

  • Laying of cables under floorboards or in loft spaces
  • Hardwired internet connection via ethernet
  • Extending your Wi-Fi signal
  • Charging cable
  • Additional work required by your energy supplier or electricity distrubution provider
  • Trenching or ducting of cables underground

Can I get a charger installed away from my property?

We're sorry, we can't install if any part of the cable route will cross a property which is not owned by you. If you have parking within the boundary of your property and it is only for use by you, we may be able to install a charger for you. Complete our online survey to find out more.

Other places we can't install include:

  • A dedicated space in a communal area.
  • Parking that is not in the boundary of your property.
  • Parking in an underground parking garage.

The legal stuff

1. We can install a charger more than 10 metres away from your electricity meter but this would cost more than the standard installation. You can find out more when you complete our online EV survey, followed by your video survey.
