Chantal - Commercial Lawyer

"E.ON has been a fantastic employer to me. When I first joined the company, I joined as a trainee and qualified as a solicitor after working for two years. We're also encouraged to develop ourselves so I've carried out an accounts management financial training course, which has made me much more proficient in financial services and accounts as well as my core legal skills."

Chantal Thomas's video and transcript - Commercial Lawyer - Westwood

Hi, my name is Chantal Thomas and I work as a Commercial Lawyer at E.ON, at our Westwood offices, just on the outskirts of Coventry. My job involves providing legal advice to our generation and renewables business, really on their projects, every day-to-day matter.

E.ON is an energy company so we build and develop power plants, whether that be coal-fired power stations or renewables - wind turbines for instance. We also develop new technologies such as wave and tidal. We also supply energy to retail customers, those being homes - supplying energy to homes, also to businesses. And, we also run a distribution network as well so providing the power and the lines which help distribute the energy and supply it to customers. We're really lucky to be working on some of the best projects in the country at the moment, at a really exciting time when the whole industry is looking forward to the next wave of power plants and certainly looking at the new renewables which will be built.

I really enjoy working at E.ON because we have a great mix of people that I work with and I've got some fantastic friends that I work with on a daily basis. People are really enthusiastic, really creative and come up with some fantastic ideas when we're working through projects and solving problems. It's also a fantastic environment in terms of the workplace as well. People who work for E.ON are really enthusiastic, very passionate about what they do. Especially the project teams that I work with, they're hugely passionate about the projects they're working on, really want them to succeed and do everything they can to make those projects succeed. We've got a great mix of talent within the business and also within the legal team as well so together, when we work together as a project team it's great. We can really make things happen.

E.ON has been a fantastic employer to me. I've worked with the company now for just over 14 years. When I first joined the company, I joined as a trainee and qualified as a solicitor after working for two years. We're also encouraged to develop ourselves so I've carried out an accounts management financial training course, which is a year's worth of studying after work and various exams, which has made me much more proficient in financial services and accounts as well as my core legal skills.

If anybody wanted to join E.ON I would thoroughly recommend it, certainly put in that application. The company is fantastic at helping you progress your development. Your personal development and your career development is really supported. And to move within such a large organisation, that's certainly something that I've really enjoyed.

Good luck with the application. I'm going to go back to my desk now and carry on with my paperwork - I've got a few contracts that I need to draft now. So, all the best.
