We make lighting work for you

We'll work with you as a consultant right from the start, identifying the lighting requirements for each area, considering dimensions and spacing, traffic, pedestrian activity, surrounding buildings, landscape and any potential safety hazards. We can then identify the type and style of luminaires and lighting columns you'll need with optimum column placement. Our designers also consider the impact of light pollution and will design schemes that help negate effects on the health of both humans and wildlife while also reducing the sky glow that impacts the visibility of the sky at night.

Jargon buster

There are a few bits of terminology that we use to talk about street lighting design that it may be helpful to understand:

Luminance level: This describes how bright the street lamps will appear to human eye. The lux level is the unit used to describe luminance. Getting this right ensures lighting is appropriate for pedestrians and traffic.

Illuminence level: This is the amount of visible light that is emitted from the lantern.

Luminance uniformity: This means that the luminance level should be uniform or equal in all areas of the lighting design.

Lumens: This is the amount of visible light that is emitted from the lantern.

Degree of glare limitation: This is an important part of street lighting design, to make sure the glare of street lights doesn’t cause visual discomfort to anyone in the area.
