Zero emission as first choice

Complete with an energy centre plus modular and expandable heating network that complies with the "Zero Carbon Standard", our sustainability experts developed an eco-friendly, smart warmth concept for a community of 3,000 apartments, 50 shops, restaurants and cafes in London’s bustling Elephant and Castle area.

How we reach our renewable targets

As part of a holistic concept, two gas-fired CHP plants each produce 800kW of electrical energy. These guarantee a climate-friendly and sustainable heat supply, combining renewable energies, heat storage facilities and intelligent grids.

By 2023, the current proportion of biogas in the area will increase from 43% to 100%, so the 3,000 apartments and 50 business units will be supplied with CO2-neutral, sustainable heat.

We've everything in view at our control centre in Farringdon, just a few miles north of Elephant and Castle. Not only can we react quickly in the event of a fault, but we also save energy by up to 30%.

Sustainable heat for an absolute hotspot

Elephant and Castle (named after a local pub) is a major regeneration site in London, which is being redeveloped to include multiple building types (residential, business, education and leisure) with great transport connections to central London. Here we're working in co-operation with the London Borough of Southwark and its partners to deliver a sustainable heat supply to multiple buildings.

At the heart of the development is the E.ON Energy Centre, where through huge glass windows people living and working locally can see the installed elements in technicolour and truly understand where the heat they use is sustainably generated.
